Toy Story 5 Trailer Pits The Beloved Duo Against a Digital Device
Exactly 30 anniversary after the first Toy Story movie was released, launching Pixar as a leading animation studio and introducing audiences to beloved figures like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now household names.
In 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed recently, offering a glimpse into the plot but keeping viewers curious how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Frightens the Toys
The preview shows the young girl — who received the toy collection when he left for college — receiving a latest plaything, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. Bonnie acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.
Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the toys seem to view it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it likely will.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
One thing the teaser avoids is what Woody is back with his companions in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a new adventure with the shepherdess (the actress), traveling with a fair and helping prize toys find good homes.
Certainly, Pixar will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him appear in Bonnie's room without warning is a little strange, however. It also raises questions whether his partner will have returned with Woody. And where is the stuntman toy (the star)?
Connections from the Last Installment
At the very least, some aspects are carrying over from the prior film. The final act Woody did before departing for his new life was pass his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (the voice actor), leaving her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip displays the insignia attached to her shirt.
Hopefully she is remains the driving force among the group.
Toy Story 5 debuts on the scheduled date.
